EDC:   Enterprise distributed component.

EJB:   Enterprise Java Beans.

Enterprise component:   A component used to resolve an enterprise-level problem.

Enterprise resource domain:   (ERD) The logical area of concern, as seen by the functional developer, that is responsible both for protecting the integrity of resources shared among a number of potentially concurrent requesters and for providing services to requesters. The scope of the ERD is that area capable of providing ACID transactions through an underlying resource manager such as a DBMS or a TPM.

This is a logical domain, not a physical one, and from a business component viewpoint comprises its enterprise and resource tiers. Often the ERD is wholly physically located on a server system.

ERD:   Enterprise resource domain.

ERP:   Enterprise resource planning.

Extended interface:   A collection of access points to a component.

External system release:   A business component system version that is deployed or released to the end user. It is a consistent set of versioned business components assembled to the required level of proven quality and packaged together with a set of deliverables often not required for internal releases, such as user guides, install tools, and so forth.
